Changes You Can Make in 2021 AEP
|

For Medicare Advantage From October 15-December 7, you can make the following changes:
• Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan
• Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan back to Original Medicare
• Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to a different Medicare Advantage plan
• Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan that doesn’t include prescription drug coverage to one that does, and vice versa

All Medicare plans would provide “Real-Time” Drug Prices
|

|
|
Starting in 2022, the Centers for Medicare and Medcaid Services (CMS) would require all Medicare prescription drug plans to provide an online tool (Beneficiary Real Time Benefit Tool (RTBT)) so that plan members could instantly see formulary details and shop for the best-priced formulary medications or find low-cost alternative medications. (see § 423.128)
An example provided by CMS was that “beneficiaries would be able to compare drug prices at the doctor’s office to find the most cost- effective prescription drugs for their health needs. In addition, if a doctor recommends a specific cholesterol-lowering drug, the patient could easily look up what the copay would be and see if a different, similarly effective option might save the patient money.”
